ABOUT

Foil stamping is a specialty process that uses heat and a film material to transfer an image onto paper. It's also known as hot stamping, dry stamping, foil imprinting or leaf stamping. Foil stamping uses dies, or sculpted metal stamps, to seal a thin layer of material onto a surface. Once heated, it releases the foil from a substrate with enough pressure to adhere only in the intended places. Employing several layers of foil in various colors, or combining ink and foil stamping, can further enhance your project. Foil stamping can also be combined with embossing to add dimension. Depending on the project, foil edges can be straight, curved or sculpted to make images more pronounced or appear as if floating above the page. Foil leaf is available in nearly every imaginable color and pattern -- metallic, matte, pearlescent, holographic, opalescent or glossy finish. Using semi-transparent layers of foil will allow colors underneath to visually play off one another. In summary, foil stamping is a unique and vibrant technique that can be applied to a more diverse selection of surfaces than offset or other specialty processes.
